TESTS

Our office is well equipped. It allows us to perform many tests while you wait. The following tests are performed from one drop of blood obtained through a finger stick:

  1. Hemoglobin and hematocrit testing. This test is performed to rule out anemia and monitor anemia treatment. It’s a common test required for school physicals and WIC forms. It takes us less than three minutes to perform this test.
  2. Lead level testing is mandatory at 1 and 2 years of age, and in any child less than 6 years of age who has been exposed to dust from old chirping house paint or old plumbing system. We are approved by New York State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to perform this test.

Urine analysis is also performed on the premises. If this test is abnormal, we send the urine sample for urine culture.

PPD testing is necessary for school and work admission, and is performed in the office. Patient has to return in 48 to 72 hours for reading.

Influenza A and B - testing done on premises.

Streptococcus A - testing done on premises.

Fecal occult blood testing - testing for blood in the stool.

HCG urine dipstick - pregnancy test.

Spirometry - allows us to diagnose and monitor cases of prolonged or progressive cough. This easy to perform test can be used to evaluate patients with allergic rhinitis, reactive airway disease, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Pulse oximetry - helps us evaluate oxygen saturation in the blood of a sick looking child with asthma or bronchiolitis. It is performed by placing a photoelectrode on the finger.

Peak flow meter for asthma evaluation.

Audiology testing is easily performed in the office to evaluate hearing for school physicals.

Evoked otoacoustic emission test is easier and faster and can be performed in place of a hearing test for newborns and young and uncooperative children since it is automatically done by the machine, does not require patient’s interaction.

Tympanometry is an objective technique used to evaluate the middle ear function. It helps to diagnose ear infection, persistent fluid in the middle ear and Eustachian tube dysfunction. This is a painless and important procedure.

Refractive vision screening is used to evaluate accurate vision and detect refractive errors especially in pre-school and school aged children. If we detect abnormalities, we refer the child for further examination by an Optometrist.
